The Prison Rules set out the various conditions in prisons in Ireland, including: admission, registration, accommodation, visiting rights, health, discipline, education, etc.
The existing prison rules in Ireland date back to 1947; the Prisons Act 2007 extends the range of matters covered by prison rules.
In 2012, IPRT developed the Know Your Rights - Your Rights as a Prisoner project with the ICCL to make the information contained in the Prison Rules more accessible. The information is available in print, PDF and MP3 formats and also in translation (Polish, Lithuanian, Arabic; Portuguese version due end 2013).
