Criminal Justice Inspection Northern Ireland today published its findings on the Probation Board’s Community Service schemes.
The report praised many aspects of the schemes and categorised the work being done as “positive, socially useful and of benefit to the community”. The report also found that those participating had lower reconviction rates.
In an effort to increase the effectiveness of the community service schemes, it was recommended that offenders undergo longer periods of time in such schemes, in order to impart discipline and the benefits of a routine, and as a means of easing reintegrating into their communities.
