Media reponse to penal reform policy launch

A number of media covered the penal reform policy document, A Fair and Effective Penal System, launched by the Labour Party yesterday.

IPRT welcomed the policy statement as part of a growing consensus across parties and agencies that our system of punishing crime is in need of radical overhaul and that a programme of penal reform is now both necessary and achievable.

The Irish prison system is in crisis, and it is critical that dealing with prisons and penal reform issues form part of all party manifestos in the run up to the forthcoming general election.
