With the children’s referendum passed and the budget looming over the Irish public, some leading Irish figures for social justice ask what is being done about educational disadvantage in Ireland today.
Speakers at the event will be IPRT Executive Director, Liam Herrick, former Governor of Mountjoy Prison, John Lonergan, and TCD Head of Education, Mike Grenfell
Organiser Emma Penney said:
"The aim of this symposium is to consider if there has been a culture of education in disadvantaged areas,” she said.
“The focus will be on removing the barriers to education arising from economic and cultural disadvantage.”
The Symposium is co-ordinated by the students of Institute of Art, Design and Technology and by IADT Students Union (USI affiliated) and is supported by the Centre for Public Culture Studies.
The Symposium will play host to a number of social justice organizations such as the Irish Penal Reform Trust, Yes For Children, Union of Students in Ireland, The Carline Centre and EPIC (formerly the IAYPIC).
Registration takes place on the day, is completely free, and all are welcome!
