UK: Guide launched to assist professionals in recognising and responding to the health and wellbeing needs of women offenders

27th February 2013

Mental health charity Together has launched a new common sense guide that offers criminal justice staff the tools to identify and address the health and well-being needs of women offenders. Written by front-line forensic mental health practitioners, the guide offers practical guidance in four main areas:

  1. spotting potential issues;
  2. understanding the impact of the women’s surroundings;
  3. asking questions to find out more; and
  4. responding.

It also provides a quick reference guide to common health and well-being problems experienced by women in the criminal justice system, including, but not limited to, trauma, self-harm, alcohol and substance misuse and domestic violence and abuse.
