Irish Prison Service Annual Report 2012

8th May 2013

The Irish Prison Service Annual Report 2012 was published today, alongside the Probation Service Annual Report 2012 and a new Joint Irish Prison Service & Probation Service Strategic Plan 2013-2015.

On its publication, IPRT called for radical action to reduce stubbornly high prison numbers, expressing continued concern over the rising numbers of female committals and fine defaulters.

IPRT also called for urgent action to address the high numbers being held on restricted regimes (22+ hour lock up) for reason of safety, which is "an extremely damaging substitute for proper risk management, with long term negative consequences."
