This week, Fourth Periodic Examination of Ireland by the UN Human Rights Committee of the ICCPR discussed Ireland’s human rights record in relation to prisoners.  IPRT Executive Director Deirdre Malone travelled to Geneva to provide expert evidence in relation to Ireland’s treatment of prisoners and use of imprisonment.  IPRT has criticised the State’s failure to ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture or tackle issues of overcrowding and degrading conditions faced by Irish prisoners.
