The Inspector of Prisons is now inviting submissions from interested parties to the 'Review of the Irish Prison Service' with a deadline of 9th April 2015.
The Terms of Reference for this review are:
"To carry out an assessment of the current culture within the Irish Prison Service and the extent to which it facilitates or hinders the development of the service and to produce a report with recommendations by 1 September 2015."
The review is being conducted in collaboration with renowned international prisons expert Professor Andrew Coyle.
IPRT welcomed the review on its announcement, 16th Feb 2015, but cautioned the review does not diminish the acute need for stronger accountability mechanisms in the Irish prison system.
