Round-up: 'Out on the Inside' - LGBT people in prison

IPRT launched a new report on the rights, needs and experiences of LGBT people in prison on Tuesday 2nd February 2016. The report is the first in-depth study on the experiences of LGBT people in prison in Ireland, and includes testimony of people affected, alongside a wider review of the prison and policy context.

In the Irish Examiner, Cormac O'Keeffe reports on findings that verbal "abuse, including threats of physical violence, has placed some of these inmates at risk of self-harm and suicidal tendencies". Read the full article here.

Writing in The Irish Times, Colm Keena detailed the report finding that the IPS currently has no policy in place, along with the responses of Fergal Black, Director of Care and Rehabilitation, Irish Prison Service; Broden Giambrone, Chief Executive, TENI; and Brian Sheehan, Executive Director, GLEN.
