News from IPRT Executive Director

Welcome to the first edition of the IPRT E-bulletin in 2019. It is significant that our 100th E-bulletin comes in the year of our 25th birthday celebrations.

After 5 years in the role of Executive Director, I wish to announce that I will be leaving my post on 8th February 2019 to take up a new opportunity. Since becoming Executive Director in March 2014 it has been my privilege to work alongside the Board of IPRT, the IPRT team, Members & Friends of IPRT, our funders and stakeholders to ensure the continued positive impact of IPRT’s evidence-informed advocacy on the penal policy landscape in Ireland.

Due to the hard work of the Board and staff team, and the support of members, donors and funders over the past number of years, IPRT is in a sustainable position. Although we should never become complacent, I am confident that IPRT will continue to thrive going forward, and to deliver on our ambitious plan of evidence-informed penal reform in Ireland, for a fairer and more just penal system for all.

When I leave my post on 8th February 2019, I will leave IPRT in the very capable hands of Fíona Ní Chinnéide, currently Deputy Executive Director, who will take up the role of Acting Executive Director.

The post of Executive Director has been advertised, with a deadline for applications of 25th January 2019. More information is available at www.iprt.ie/recruitment. I would ask you to share the advertisement for this exciting and rewarding opportunity among your contacts.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for your ongoing support of IPRT. The IPRT team looks forward to keeping you updated on our projects and progress in the coming year.

Warm regards,

Deirdre Malone
Executive Director

Save the date: IPRT ‘Care and Justice’ Report Launch

On 26th February 2019, IPRT will publish our latest research report, which examines the over-representation of children in the care system in the criminal justice system, and makes clear recommendations on how the state can and should better support these children. The research was carried out by Dr Nicola Carr (University of Nottingham) and Dr Paula Mayock (Trinity College Dublin), and is funded by The Community Foundation for Ireland.

We are delighted that the Ombudsman for Children, Dr. Niall Muldoon will launch the report. The event takes place at 4.30pm on Tuesday 26th February 2019 in the Ombudsman for Children’s Office (OCO), Millennium House, 52-56 Great Strand Street, Dublin 1.

More details will follow soon. To register an interest in attending, email info@iprt.ie
