Authors of IPRT's 'Care and Justice' report, Dr Nicola Carr and Dr Paula Mayock, wrote a guest blog for the Howard League for Penal Reform's blog on ending the criminalisation of children in residential care.
Care and Justice: Young People in Care and Contact with the Criminal Justice System is research commissioned by IPRT, which sought to explore some of the reasons that children from care come into contact with the criminal justice system in Ireland and if there is evidence of disproportionality. The research is small-scale and exploratory, but it is the first national study to examine these issues.
In this guest blog, the authors of the research discuss the findings of the Irish research, as well as the differences and similarities between the current context in England & Wales and Ireland.
