Harm reduction policies and programs for persons involved in the criminal justice system

31st May 2005

This document, published by the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA), is one of a series of documents intended to provide current, objective and empirically-based information to inform the implementation of policies and programs for promoting the reduction of harms associated with substance abuse in Canada.

The document examines harm reduction policies and programs that have been followed in prisons in Canada and worldwide, targeting alcohol and drug abuse and other risk behaviours, such as tattooing and unprotected sex, in prisons.

Our work is supported by

Respect for rights in the penal system with prison as a last resort.
