Electronic Monitoring of Sex Offenders Post-Release

8th June 2018

The general outline of legislation providing for the electronic tagging of sex offenders has been approved by the Government. It would provide a legal basis for the electronic monitoring after release from prison.

IPRT Executive Director Deirdre Malone was involved in a range of media discussions around the issue. IPRT points to the lack of evidence base on the effectiveness of electronic monitoring in reducing reoffending and aiding reintegration and the high cost of implementation of these measures.

Deirdre Malone also appeared on TV3's The Tonight Show on Wednesday 6 June, to discuss the issue with their panel. You can watch it back from 33:10 on the 3player.
