'Hearing their Voices' Traveller Women in Prison
2nd October 2017
Hearing Their Voices documents the stark inequalities faced by Traveller women before, during and after prison, foregrounding the powerful testimonies of twelve women who speak candidly about discrimination, violence, health, family separation and survival.
The report highlights the severe over‑representation of Traveller women in custody and calls for urgent, justice‑focused action across the system. It builds on the work of the Travellers in Prison Initiative and reinforces long‑standing concerns about racism and exclusion in Ireland’s penal system.
