IPRT welcomes commitments in Justice Strategy Statement 2015 - 2017

The Dept of Justice and Equality published its Strategy Statement 2015 - 2017 on 17th April 2015. IPRT welcomes commitments included in 'A Safe, Secure Ireland' (pp. 19-20), which are worth reading in full.
IPRT particularly welcomes commitments to:
- Development of coherent crime policy and legislative frameworks, and cross sectoral and inter-agency partnership approaches
- Delivery of enhanced youth justice services through targeted interventions to support better outcomes for young people coming into contact with the criminal justice system
- Development of competent, caring and efficient services to victims of crime, including implementation of the EU Victims Directive
- Implementation of recommendations of the Strategic Review of Penal Policy, including commitments on parole reform and increasing provision of open prisons
- Progression of the Inspection of Places of Detention Bill
- Ratification of UN Conventions and meeting of international reporting obligations
