Prison bakery to be installed in NI prison similar to Mountjoy scheme

The Northern Ireland Prison Service has announced plans to install a prisoner-run bakery at Hydebank Wood women and young offender's prison, Belfast, along the lines of the scheme currently in place at Mountjoy Prison, Dublin.
The bakery is set to provide around 2,000 loaves a week to HMP Hydebank itself and to HMP Maghaberry. Richard Taylor, governor in charge of learning and skills in the Northern Ireland Prison Service, had previously visited the bakery run by prisoners in Mountjoy Prison, Dublin.
The benefits of such scheme include the provision of skills to prisoners for the workplace after release, and reduced cost to the prison service itself in providing bread to prisoners.
