The Irish Youth Justice Service (IYJS) has published a report on Garda Youth Diversion Projects (GYDPs), one of the measures in place to help reduce youth crime.
‘Designing Effective Local Responses to Youth Crime: A baseline analysis of the Garda Youth Diversion Projects’ looks at youth crime as it occurs in local areas and seeks to analyse how Garda Youth Diversion Projects (GYDPs) - community based multi-agency crime prevention initiatives - can impact upon youth offending.
The report examines the nature and causes of youth offending, with a view to providing a roadmap for assisting local effort in the reduction of youth crime in the future.
Drawing on international research evidence and the successful tactics employed by many Garda youth projects, the report provides a strategic direction for how youth crime may be tackled more effectively in the future. The recommendations of the report will be implemented by the end of 2010.
