Parliamentary Question: Departmental Properties

19th November 2003

227. Ms Enright asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his plans for the future use of the former prison officers houses at Beladd Park, Portlaoise; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27643/03]

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. McDowell): Following the expected departure of the small number of remaining residents from Beladd Park at the end of this year, some works will be carried out to improve security in the vicinity of the portion of the Midlands Prison boundary which adjoins the estate to prevent further incursions in the area by persons throwing contraband over the prison wall. Regarding the future use of the houses, I have yet to make a final decision on the use to which they may be put but I advise the Deputy that disposal of the property is not in contemplation at this juncture.
