Parliamentary Question: Prison Accommodation

27th February 2007

 262. Mr. Costello asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the purpose of the present construction works in Arbour Hill Prison; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7382/07]

Tánaiste and Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. McDowell): There are no construction works under way at Arbour Hill Prison at present. A number of minor works are, however, being carried out on a site adjacent to the prison, which was recently transferred from the Department of Defence to the Irish Prison Service. These works include necessary items arising in the context of Health and Safety and security, as well as the provision of some temporary staff car parking facilities.
