Parliamentary Question: Prison Drugs Strategy

1st June 2004

62. Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress made in regard to his consideration of the draft proposals for a new prison drugs policy prepared by Irish Prison Service management; if it is intended to publish the proposals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16308/04]

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. McDowell):  I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 67 of 5 May 2004 in which I indicated that I am considering proposals for a new prison drugs policy and examining whether it would be effective in ridding our prisons of drugs. It is my intention to publish the new policy in due course.
