Parliamentary Question: Prison Health Care Services

26th February 2003

223. Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if clearly defined standards of health care as recommended by the report of the group that reviewed the structure and organisation of prison health care services in 2001 have been introduced to the Prison Service. [5877/03]

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. McDowell): A draft set of health care standards for the Irish Prison Service has been prepared over recent months and is currently the subject of consultation with health care professionals operating within the prison system and with prison governors. In light of this exercise it would be the intention to introduce these standards as soon as possible.
