226. Ms Enright asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of hours of overtime available at Midlands Prison, Portlaoise, for 2002 and to date in 2003; the number of hours actually worked; the estimated cost of the hours available; and the actual cost of the hours worked. [27642/03]

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. McDowell): The number of overtime hours budgeted by the Irish Prison Service for the Midlands Prison, Portlaoise, in 2002 was 171,912, costing €4,837,604 approximately, and the actual number of overtime hours worked was 193,171, costing €5,435,832 approximately.
The number of overtime hours budgeted by the Irish Prison Service for the Midlands Prison, Portlaoise, for 2003 to date - 31 October 2003 - is 144,351, costing €4,186,179 approximately, and the actual number of overtime hours for the same period is 160,554, costing €4,656,066 approximately.
