245. Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of convicted sex offenders being housed in prisons here; and the number on remand or going through the courts. [3731/01]

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. O'Donoghue): There were 348 convicted sex offenders held in custody in prisons on 23 January 2001. There were 32 persons in custody facing further court appearances in relation to such charges.
