Dr. Cowley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his plans to extend community service as a means of rehabilitating young, and first-time offenders, rather than custodial jail sentences; if he will extend this service to specific agreed community projects in association with his own Department and other Departments, such as the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
