IPRT welcomes the announcement by the Minister of the establishment of a new Prison Service Board with an independent Chair, which will be responsible for developing and upholding improved ethical standards.

IPRT comments on the extent of prison overcrowding and reiterates the urgent need for implementation of a strategy to reduce prisoner numbers to a safe level.

IPRT appeared before the Joint Committee on Justice and Equality to give evidence as part of the Committee’s review of spent convictions legislation.
